This time next year as summer comes in full swing vacationers and travelers to the Great Valley area will have another hotel to rest their weary legs.
A new Residence Inn by Marriott hotel is being built at the intersection of Route 29 and General Warren Boulevard in the Malvern area. Gulph Creek Development contracted Northstar construction to build the inn.
“We are pleased to build our third hotel in the Great Valley Market,” said Clark Blynn, Gulph Creek representative. “The Route 29 corridor between the turnpike (I-76) and Route 202 is being re-developed by a variety of companies, and we’re proud to be a part of that.”
In a brief phone interview, Blynn said the hotel likely would be completed by April of next year. He declined to reveal the cost of construction.
Blynn stressed the hotel was intended for extended stays, for four to three days; prices for other resident inns in the region typically run from $169 to $219 a night.
The hotel is attempting to cater to business workers by offering a 24-hour business center and according to a company press release, a “small meeting room for corporate meetings and get-togethers.”
Blynn founded Gulph Creek Development in 2003 along Doug McBrearty, who graduated from Penn State in 1973.
Gulph Creek Development tends to focus on the traveling businessman as its major source of revenue. Gulph Creek hopes the hotel’s location will provide its guests “easy access to King of Prussia, Harrisburg, Philadelphia, New Jersey and New York City.”
According to an interview conducted in 2003 by the Philadelphia Business Journal, Blynn stated “The key to our success has been taking the basic Hampton Inn box and upgrading the amenities for the business traveler.”
According to the company press release, all of the suites offer a full kitchen with microwaves, refrigerators and stovetops as well as free wireless (Wi-Fi) high-speed internet access, a 39 inch LCD TV with free HD premium channels and web-based guestroom entertainment. Hotel amenities include a complementary hot breakfast buffet, a sweet shop, and a 24-hour business center. The hotel also features free grocery delivery as well as dry cleaning and on-site laundry.
The release added that “…for relaxation, there will be an outdoor patio with barbeque and a fire pit, as well as a fitness center and indoor pool. Each evening, will feature the Residence Inn MIX, Residence Inn’s trademark evening socials from Monday through Thursday. Each evening, management will provide a different experience from a barbeque to, sampling local restaurants, to food trucks. Complimentary beer and wine will also be featured from Monday through Thursday. The hotel will also feature a small meeting room for corporate meetings and get-togethers. The guest suites also feature a large bathroom with extra large showers.“
Residence Inn currently has more than 700 hotels around the world, making it the largest extended stay brand in the US and the world.
