ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Renaissance Allentown Hotel has a reopening date, more than a year after it closed because of the pandemic.
The hotel is set to reopen on April 1, and will be managed by Gulph Creek Hotels, according to a news release from City Center Investment.
Gulph Creek said it has already started hiring hotel staff and accepting bookings for weddings and other events at the 170-room hotel, the release says. It’s rehiring many of the employees who were with the hotel before the pandemic, and is taking applications.
“We think it’s a gorgeous hotel,” said Derek Sylvester, principal of Gulph Creek Hotels. “It’s in great shape. It’s not your conventional box hotel. It’s got some really unique assets and features, between the decor of The Dime and the meeting space and the guest rooms. It’s really a well-positioned, appealing hotel.”
Gulph Creek is accepting bookings for weddings and events and is hiring staff, looking to rehire many of the employees who worked at the hotel before the pandemic. Sylvester said the company is hiring 25-35 employees to reopen, with plans to increase that number to 50-60 workers as business ramps up. When fully staffed, the Renaissance will employ 100-125 people, he said.
Gulph Creek Hotels, a Pennsylvania-based hotel management and ownership group, has named Addy Maini as COO. In the newly created role, Maini, who rejoins the company, will work closely with corporate and on-property leadership, focusing on day-to-day operations, training, sales, food and beverage, human resources and accounting. Additionally, he will provide guidance and direction for company infrastructure enhancements as Gulph Creek continues to expand into full-service hotels and outside its Mid-Atlantic geographic base.
